Champions League Preview 2014/15: FC Basel (A)

By Gary Fulcher.

Matchday two of the Champions League sees Liverpool travel to Switzerland to face FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park on Wednesday evening, 7.45pm kick off UK time. Basel suffered a heavy 1-5 defeat against Real Madrid in their opening group game, while Liverpool labored to a 2-1 victory against Ludogorets Razgrad, taking all three points thanks to a stoppage time penalty from Steven Gerrard.

Basel appointed Paulo Sousa – whom Brendan Rodgers replaced as Swansea manager back in July 2010 – as their manager in the Summer, and despite Sousa being Basel’s fourth new managerial appointment in five years, RotBlau have won the Swiss Super League for the past five consecutive seasons. The furthest Basel have progressed in the Champions League is the Last 16 (2011/12) where they were eliminated by Bayern Munich 7-1 on aggregate despite a surprise 1-0 victory in the first leg in Switzerland.

Basel did the double over Chelsea in last season’s Champions League Group Stage, winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge and 1-0 at St. Jakob Park, but still failed to qualify from Group E, losing out to Schalke in the final game, with the German side pipping Basel to 2nd place following a 2-0 victory on Matchday 6.

Defender scored in injury time to take point against Liverpool

Jagielka: fans have had too many rubbish days at Anfield

Match report: Liverpool 1-1 Everton

Brendan Rodgers hit by defender drama on and off pitch

Phil Jagielka hopes that snatching a point at Anfield can provide Everton with the spark to ignite their season. Liverpool looked to have sealed a derby victory through Steven Gerrards 65th-minute free-kick only for Jagielka to pop up in injury time and rifle an equaliser into the top corner.

Evertons long wait for a victory at Anfield which stretches back to 1999 goes on but the point meant it was they who left the game with a spring in their step. Mario Balotelli Beds French ‘Beauty’ Eglantine Flore Aguilar: Liverpool Man Follows Ashley Cole In Romp With Busty WAG

Anfield star finding it hard to get over split from fiance Fanny Neguesha clearly

Liverpool may have failed to score in the Merseyside derby but apparently has no such issues off the field of play.

French ‘beauty’ Eglantine Flore Aguilar has reportedly added the Italian international to a long line of footballers she has ‘bedded’ according to Le Prensa.

More Sexy WAGs here

The 21 year old has previously experienced ‘encounters’ with former Chelsea star Ashley Cole and West Brom star Saido Berahino and has now added Balotelli to the notches on her bed-post.

Speaking of their liaison Aguilar has stated;

‘Mario is very well equipped, he is a real Italian stallion. If he is half as athletic on the field as he is in bed, Liverpool should have nothing to worry about!’

‘He said he liked my pictures, we started exchanging messages on WhatsApp but he was quite cautious.’

‘Eventually Mario asked me to go with him to a hotel. I went and we started talking. He asked if I had ever been in bed with a footballer. I said yes but did not tell him the names.’

‘Then he asked me what I expected of him and told him, knowing his reputation, we were going to have sex. We got into bed and started to pretend he was going to sleep. He asked me to give him a goodnight kiss and we started having sex.’

‘It was very good. He knew what he was doing and was pretty considerate with me.’

‘He is a million times better in bed than any player I’ve ever been. We did five different positions.’

And who said romance was dead.
